Building a brighter future through literacy and learning in rural Uganda.
Before Ak-Hand Foundation stepped in, students had no dedicated space to read, study, or explore the world beyond their textbooks.
Before: Students gathered under a tree for lack of a library.
For years, students at our partner schools had no access to a proper library. Lessons were held in overcrowded classrooms, and reading materials were scarce. Those who wanted to study after hours had nowhere to go — no quiet space, no reference books, no internet.
This lack of infrastructure meant children were falling behind. Without a library, they couldn't develop the habit of reading, and their exposure to the world beyond their village remained limited.
The challenge: build a safe, inspiring, and fully-stocked library that would serve as a hub for learning and community growth.
Through the generous support of our donors and partners, we have constructed a modern library that is already changing lives.
After: The completed library structure.
We have constructed a bright, secure library building with spacious reading rooms, shelves filled with over 2,500 books, and dedicated areas for group study and quiet reading.
Electricity has been installed, providing light for evening study sessions. The space is now used daily by students, teachers, and community members who come to read, research, and learn.
Impact so far:
We dream bigger. Here's what we're working toward next.
Concept: The future digital & community library.
Our ultimate goal is to expand the library into a fully integrated learning and resource centre that serves the entire community.
We plan to add:
This will not only benefit students but also empower parents, young adults, and the wider community with access to information and digital skills.
10 computers with internet access for research and learning.
Monthly literacy, coding, and vocational workshops.
Corporate and individual sponsors can adopt a shelf or section.
Your donation can help us complete the library, buy more books, and bring digital learning to rural students. Every contribution counts.
